MPs question senior management team in Parliament over CQC report and constituents’ concerns
John Baron MP and Stephen Metcalfe MP recently summoned and met Hannah Coffey, Acting Chief Executive, and Andrew Pike, Chief Operating Officer, for Basildon Hospital in Parliament to discuss the recent CQC report published in June, which rated the hospital as inadequate. Many of the issues raised matched those raised by constituents directly with the MPs. The MPs took the opportunity to quiz the hospital management team about the report and to seek assurances that the CQC recommendations are being implemented and patient care will improve.
John and Stephen said,
“We were concerned to read the CQC report published last month which highlighted a number of concerns at Basildon Hospital and the wider Trust, and which also reflect issues raised in our constituency mailbags. Reports that patients were not being fed and given water, being ignored and not treated with dignity were among the many concerns we have.”
“We therefore arranged to meet the hospital management team in Parliament to seek assurances over patient care in the future. It was a useful discussion and we will be keeping a close eye on progress.”
Hannah Coffey, Acting Chief Executive said,
“It was very helpful to be able to describe many of the positive changes we’ve made since our initial inspection, including improvements in governance, recruitment/retention and nutrition. I hope this has assured our local MPs that we have already made good progress.”
