MP writes to local secondary schools
Having recently met with representatives from the Duke of Edinburgh Award, John Baron MP has written to all local secondary schools to encourage them to embrace the Duke of Edinburgh Award programme for their students. John has also suggested that they contact The Fun Walk Trust [of which he is Chair of Trustees] for assistance with funding if necessary.
John said:
“A number of local schools and organisations already take part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award programme, with large numbers of students achieving their Bronze Award but few going on to complete their Silver and Gold Awards. Meanwhile other schools do not run the programme at all.”
“Therefore, I am hoping to encourage schools to assist their pupils to benefit from its many qualities. I am particularly keen to ensure that financial considerations do not put young people off and I have therefore suggested The Fun Walk could help to raise additional funding so that every student has a chance to enjoy the programme, as did my children.”
