MP: have your say on ticket office changes
John Baron MP has today urged constituents and local railway users to take the opportunity to respond to consultations about changes to ticketing offices by both Greater Anglia which runs the Billericay Station in John’s constituency and c2c which is responsible for Laindon and Basildon stations. Both companies have detailed on their websites the proposed changes to ticket office opening hours with the focus being shifted to customers buying tickets online and via the ticket machines that are already available at stations. The consultation runs until 26th July 2023.
John said:
“It is important for local residents, particularly those who use our local stations, to review the proposals and take the opportunity to respond to the consultations on c2c and Greater Anglia’s plans.”
Notes to Editors
Greater Anglia
Details of the Greater Anglia consultation are available at:
https://www.greateranglia.co.uk/consult
Greater Anglia is proposing that customers would still be able to buy tickets from the ticket machine and online (as now), and assistance would still be available at the station to help customers at certain times. Ticketing assistance would also be available directly from staff in Greater Anglia’s Customer Contact Centre in Norwich, contactable via the ticket machine (24 hours a day).
For Billericay all ticket office windows would close, with staff moving to other station areas, where they would be better placed to help customers buy tickets and provide expert travel advice and information.
Customer Information Centres at Chelmsford, and London Liverpool Street stations would sell a full range of products, as well as providing help with more complex transactions. There would be no change to the hours that staff would be available, with a staff presence throughout the day. Those hours would therefore be as follows:
Days
Current Ticket Office Hours
Proposed station staffing hours
Monday to Friday
06:00 – 20:15
06:00 – 21:00
Saturday
06:00 – 20:15
06:30 – 20:45
Sunday
07:10 – 20:40
07:00 – 20:45
Station opening times would not change and customers would still have access to the same station facilities they do today.
There are also proposals to create additional mobile assistance teams, offering greater flexibility and support in providing assistance.
