MP: British Council does excellent work
In FCDO OPQs today, John asked,
“The British Council’s ‘teaching and learning in difficult times’ programme will soon have provided almost 2,000 Ukrainian English teachers with help to support children and young people who have experienced trauma during the Russian invasion.”
“Thanks to the work of Zhanna Sevastionova, who runs the programme, and Country Director Leigh Gibson, the future of Ukraine - its young people - is being safeguarded.”
“Can I confirm the Minister’s support for this outstanding programme, his thanks to Zhanna, Leigh and the team for their work, and his recognition of the very real, strategic impact the British Council can have even in the most challenging circumstances?”
The Minister, David Rutley MP, agreed with John’s words about the British Council’s team’s outstanding work in Ukraine, and paid tribute to their efforts in difficult circumstances.”
John said afterwards,
“The British Council does excellent work around the world, and even more so in difficult and challenging areas where their efforts are extremely important. I am pleased the Minister paid such a strong tribute to their work in Ukraine, and add my congratulations on behalf of the British Council All-Party Parliamentary Group.”
