MP encourages residents to make submissions
John Baron MP has today encouraged local residents to respond to a consultation being run by the Local Government Boundary Commission for England regarding the new pattern of electoral wards for Basildon Council. The public consultation inviting proposals for the new pattern will run to 18th July 2022 and the plan is to then publish proposals in October 2022 for a further public consultation to run from October 2022 to December 2022. Final recommendations will be made in February 2023 and the new electoral arrangements for the borough are scheduled to come into effect at the borough council elections in 2024.
John said:
“It is important residents have a say in how the pattern of electoral wards is drawn up. I would therefore encourage constituents to review the guidance and submit their views to the consultation. Local democracy needs you to ensure fairness!”

In drawing up a pattern of electoral wards, the boundary commission seeks to:
- Make sure that, within an authority, each councillor represents a similar number of electors
- Reflect the electoral cycle so that each ward is represented by three councillors
- Create boundaries that are appropriate, and reflect community ties and identities
- Deliver reviews informed by local needs, views and circumstances
