MP: Party needs to coalesce around one candidate
Responding to the Prime Minister’s decision to resign, John said,
“Liz Truss has made the right decision to stand down as party leader and Prime Minister. The cumulative effect of her and her Government’s mistakes over the past few weeks, including the events of last night, made her position untenable. I wish her well for the future.”
“In selecting her replacement, the party urgently needs to coalesce around one single candidate. In so doing, we must put aside the ideology and personal ambition that lay over this summer’s contest, and choose someone who can steady the ship, bring compassion to the difficult spending decisions required and unite the party.”
