MP: You serve to lead, and you lead by example
Following Boris Johnson’s resignation today as Party leader, John said:
“The Prime Minister has made the right decision in resigning as Party leader. We remember his many achievements but the integrity of Parliament is paramount – it is the beating heart of our nation. I withdrew my support once the Sue Gray report laid bare the extent of rule-breaking in No.10 for I could not accept he was unaware, and to knowingly mislead Parliament cannot be tolerated. You serve to lead, and you lead by example.”
“The extent of Ministerial and backbench discontent in recent days finally convinced him to do the right thing given the Government was becoming paralysed. He is right to stay on as PM until the autumn, given the importance of an orderly leadership contest and handover process. Leaving No.10 now would not serve the Country or Party well.”
