MP: This will help those suffering most with cost of living
John Baron MP has been campaigning for the Government to raise the minimum wages and, with the Autumn Statement due on Thursday, is now urging the Chancellor to accept the official recommendation of the Low Pay Commission to increase the National Living Wage from £9.50/hour to £10.40/hour – a rise of nearly 10%. Some reports suggest it could be even higher. John has written to the Chancellor encouraging him to follow through on these reports.
John said,
“Raising the National Living Wage by at least 10% could help 2.5 million of the lowest paid and thereby help those suffering most from the cost of living crisis. This will entail a cost to businesses, but the UK will remain a competitive place to do business as we transition towards a high-wage, high skill economy.”
“For the same reasons, I also hope the Government will also increase benefits and pensions in line with inflation.”
