MP: I have always acted in the public interest
Yesterday John Baron MP received a letter from the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards, Daniel Greenberg CB, informing him that he will not be opening an investigation, following a referral to the Commissioner from ‘Unlock Democracy’ by Tom Brake, the former Liberal Democrat MP, for John’s role in the campaign to resolve the misleading cost disclosure issue for investment companies (also known as investment trusts). This referral was covered by the Guardian on Good Friday.
John said,
“I welcome the Parliamentary Commissioner's decision that there is no need to open an investigation. I was confident this would be the outcome, as I have always declared all my financial interests, cited them when appropriate, there was never any personal gain, and I have always acted strongly in the public interest in trying to resolve this misleading cost disclosure issue for the benefit of all investors and our economy. I also knew the Commissioner to be fair and diligent in his work.”
