MP: Eligible Pensioners should take up this support
The Government is running a campaign to increase the take-up of Pension Credit. Previous initiatives have driven take-up of Pension Credit to the highest level since 2010, but the Government now wants to reach the 850,000 who could still benefit but who have not yet applied. The Pensions Minister has written to local newspapers nationwide, and the Department for Work and Pensions will send leaflets to eleven million pensioners. In Basildon and Billericay, there are already around 1,870 claimants, but more people are eligible for an average of £3,300 a year in support.
John said,
“As well as a cash top-up to the State Pension, Pension Credit also opens up access to other benefits such as help with housing costs, council tax reduction schemes, heating bills and free over-75s TV licenses. I encourage eligible pensioners, and those who care for and support older people, to access the help they are entitled to.”
