MP urges RMT to call off damaging strikes
The RMT union has announced rail strikes next week on 21st, 23rd and 25th June. Thousands of people will not be able to get to work, including school pupils taking exams, and the economy will be dented by tens of millions of pounds. People who can work from home are being advised to do so.
John said,
“It is disappointing that the RMT has decided to go ahead with these strikes. In order to keep the railways going through the pandemic the Government committed £16 billion, and not a single railway worker had to be furloughed or lost their job. No-one can doubt the Government’s commitment to the railways, but this level of public subsidy can not continue indefinitely.”
“It still lies open to the RMT to call off these damaging strikes, and I urge them to do so and get around the negotiating table.”
