John Baron MP signs cross-party letter on Russian economic sanctions
On anniversary of invasion MP calls for stricter measures
Today marks the one-year anniversary of Russia’s illegal and unprovoked invasion of Ukraine. In addition to supplying military equipment, many countries, including the UK, have passed economic sanctions against Russian businessmen and their interests. However, John Baron MP believes there is scope for more action, and accordingly joined the nearly 70 MPs who signed a cross-party letter calling on the Government to take further steps to rid our system of Russian ‘dirty money’.
John said,
“Today marks a grim milestone, and it appears the fighting will sadly continue for some time. In addition to supplying the essential equipment to help the Ukrainians prevail on the battlefield, in conjunction with other countries we need to use our financial firepower to degrade the Russians’ ability to finance their illegal war of aggression whilst also ‘cleaning’ up our financial system.”
“I hope the Government heeds our cross-party letter, and look forward to hearing its next steps on this front, especially as the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Bill passes through Parliament.”
