MP will be supporting the deal in forthcoming vote
Yesterday the Prime Minister, Rt Hon Rishi Sunak MP, and President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, unveiled the Windsor Framework, which addresses the problems caused by the Northern Ireland Protocol.
John said,
“As someone who served in Northern Ireland during the Troubles, it is essential the balance the Good Friday Agreement achieved is restored. It appears Britain’s well-founded and reasonable points as to the Protocol’s adverse effects on trade, democracy and everyday life in Northern Ireland have been accepted by the EU. The Prime Minister and his team deserve our congratulations for this success.”
“The Prime Minister has wisely given politicians a period of time to examine the Windsor Framework. Unless some nasty surprises are unearthed, I will be voting for it. We need to put the UK-EU relationship on an even keel, restore normality to life in Northern Ireland and take advantage of this new-found stability to better the situation for the people and businesses in Northern Ireland and beyond.”
“Complexities usually foster opportunities. Northern Ireland’s unique position as both a member of the UK and the EU’s Single Market offers the prospect of greater inward investment and jobs. Economic prosperity solves most problems.”
