MP: Prosperity solves most problems
This afternoon, MPs voted to endorse the Stormont Brake and the Windsor Framework by 515 votes to 29. John Baron MP voted in favour of the Windsor Framework, and intervened on the Northern Ireland Secretary, Rt Hon Chris Heaton-Harris MP, during the short debate.
In the Chamber, John said,
“As someone who served in Northern Ireland during the Troubles, I saw the anger and pain endured by both communities, does the Secretary of State agree with me that not only does the Windsor Framework restore the balance established by the Belfast Agreement but could also be a spur to economic growth by way of inward investment, and we should remember that prosperity solves most problems?”
The Secretary of State agreed with John’s comments.
Afterwards, John said,
“We should never allow perfection to stand in the way of the very good. No agreement of this kind is perfect, but we now need to move forward. This is a major step forward for the people of Northern Ireland and helps to secure Northern Ireland’s place within our precious union.”
